Sydney’s Story

Sydney is a 27-year-old self-taught artist. Growing up in Missouri, she always longed to be near the ocean. The day after graduating high-school, she decided to say goodbye to her small-town and move to an island she’d only ever dreamed about, St. John USVI. She condensed her belongings into two bags, boarded a plane and never looked back.

September 6th, 2017 was when everything changed. Irma and Maria, two category 5 hurricanes, tore through the Caribbean Islands, leaving behind complete devastation. What was once considered home is now unrecognizable. After 112 days of bouncing around as a refugee, she relocated to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Sydney felt more compelled than ever to re-create the island scenery that was so suddenly stripped away from so many. She references photos that she has taken to create her oil paintings.

Inspired by Sydney’s travels and nature, her paintings capture moments frozen in time yet inspire the movement of imagination, offering the viewer their own interpretation. Sunsets, sunrises, and seas produce the color scheme along her palette. Her meticulous attention to detail is clearly demonstrated through her realistic seascape and landscape paintings. Her work continues to evolve through her intimate journey of creation. Sydney’s paintings directly reflect her passion for life and express the beauty and tranquility of the precious waters and fascinating nature that surrounds us.
